Cambridge is a particularly appealing university city, with a population approaching 100,000. Located on the eastern side of England, Cambridge features a fairly compact city centre, with many sights and attractions within easy walking distance of each other.

Cambridge Orientation: Layout and Directions



Central Cambridge is well pedestrianised and offers a good selection of hotels, restaurants and shopping centres. The scenic River Cam runs through the north of Cambridge and meanders along the western side of the city, offering riverside walking trails and a number of popular pubs.

Spread across in a circle-shaped area, much of Cambridge is encircled by Chesterton Lane, Elizabeth Way and Gonville Place, together with East Road, Lensfield Road and Queen's Road. The northern side of Cambridge is known for its green areas, which include Midsummer Common and the popular Jesus Green. The numerous historic buildings that comprise the world-famous University of Cambridge are peppered throughout the city, with many standing on the western side of Cambridge, along Trinity Street.
